Jaipur grown Raaga Raasa going beyond the Pink City
Jaipur based designer brand Raaga Raasa was launched in September 2017, by two enterprising sisters Ragini and Rashmi who were inspired by the cultural heritage and the poise of the royals of Jaipur and growing up in the pink city that was just all around
“The subtle and clean silhouettes and the richness of the fabrics always attracted us(sisters) and our names together led to Raaga Raasa ( Ragini and Rashmi),” says Rashmi who looks after the branding and marketing of the label. She adds, “Raaga Raasa is for those who wear their attitude; we are more into creating styles then following the fashion. Our designs are simple yet poised; we have a defined set of customer’s signature wardrobes.”
Raaga Raasa has both the bespoke and pŕet collection for Indian, western and Fusion wear. “As we cater to a very selective and niche clientele, some visiting us from various cities and countries so time crunch is a big challenge, hence the decision of pŕet wear which can be readily picked up. It may sound like ready to wear but a lot goes in the making of each piece, it’s customized keeping in mind , who would wear the creation. The colour, size of the motifs and the workmanship is concluded on the basis of the anatomy of the wearer,” avers Ragini, looking after the design and production of the label.
Since its inception the label is catching up fast. Besides selling through own retail outlet in Jaipur, the sisters take their brand to exclusive previews and exhibitions. Talking about the response to their own creation, Rashmi proudly shared, “The response has been overwhelming, we have regular clients worldwide now. As we cater to a niche segment, our clientele is very selective in what they pick. We mostly do Fusion and Western wear but for weddings we do lot of Indian ethnic and trousseaus.”
Designer labels are no more city centric as majority of the designers have their own e-commerce platforms to sell their labels pan India and across the globe. Raaga Raasa too, will be sold through e-commerce platform but only for international market. “Locally it’s pretty much copy paste market and we want to maintain the exclusivity of our range,” points out Rashmi.
In next two years, the designer sisters are looking at multiplying and setting up their retail stores in Delhi Gurgaon and Mumbai.
