PVH Corp. jumped ahead 25 places on Barron’s list of most sustainable US companies, landing at No. 12 this year. The company which previously ranked No. 37, was just behind Best Buy in the category of Consumer Discretionary businesses. Best Buy, an electronics retailer, was ranked No. 1 overall.

Barron’s observed that a company’s progress toward sustainability – an overall driver of success in 2019, is largely driven by the personal passion of its CEO. “Financial success accelerates our ability to focus on corporate responsibility and doing the right thing for our associates, communities and the environment. We know that increasingly our investors, our customers and consumers care about how we do business,” said Emanuel Chirico, Chairman & CEO- PVH. “At PVH, we are consciously using our power to drive fashion forward for good.”

This is Barron’s second annual ranking of public companies, which measured the 1,000 largest publicly held companies, defined by market capitalization, incorporated and headquartered in the United States. Sustainability rankings were based on shareholders, employees, customers, community and “planet” – the five key stakeholder categories defined by Barron’s, a prestigious business publication.

In general, companies that prioritize these non-traditional business metrics lead their competitors and are considered appealing to investors, according to Barron’s. It reported the top 100 sustainable companies on its list have outperformed the S&P two years in a row.

Barron’s also noted that consumers and potential talent are following the lead of investors, making purchase and employment decisions based on factors such as community and being “green.”
